The William Inge
Festival Foundation has
announced their award of
a general operating
grant from the Kansas
Arts Commission.
The grant is support for
year-round programming
by the William Inge
Center for the Arts at
Independence Community
college. The
$7,808 gift is for use
during the current
fiscal year.
“The great thing about
general operating
support funds is that
they can be applied
wherever needed the
most. In this case
they will likely be
spent to help bring
guest artists to
Independence to provide
workshops during the
Festival and throughout
the year,” said Inge
Center Artistic Director
Peter Ellenstein.
“The Kansas Arts
Commission is of
extraordinary importance
to arts groups
throughout Kansas,
especially those in
rural areas with fewer
corporations and
foundations from which
to seek support.”
Founded in 1992, the
William Inge Festival
Foundation helps support
the activities of the
William Inge Center for
the Arts at Independence
Community College.
The
Inge Center is named for
the late Pulitzer Prize
(“Picnic”) and Oscar
winning (“Splendor in
the Grass”) writer
William Inge, a native
of Independence.
It is best known for its
annual William Inge
Theatre Festival, which
celebrates its 29th
year April 21-24, 2010.
The Festival will honor
dramatist Paula Vogel.
Additional major
supporters of the Inge
Center include Hallmark
Cards, The William T.
Kemper Foundation, The
National Endowment for
the Arts, and
Independence Community
College.
