Adult Education/GED® Options

 

Make Your Choice

Adult Education Students can choose from 3 Options.

  • The Class Option allows students to attend 8 week sessions that will improve their reading, writing, math, employability, and technology skills and prepare them to pass the GED® tests.  Daytime classes are offered Monday thru Thursday 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and evening classes are offered Tuesday thru Thursday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  ESL classes are offered Monday thru Thursday 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

 

  • The GED® Testing Option allows candidate(s) to sign up, pay, and take the Official GED® Practice Tests (OPT).  If the student passes the OPT test, then candidate(s) can sign up, pay, and take the Official GED® Tests. 
     

 

Additional Services/Classes

 

  • College Readiness is a course designed with three components.  It is required for those who qualify.  The course offers an advanced math class and language arts class held and the Center.  The third component is the Freshman Success Seminar scholar shipped by the college for college credit.  This offering is available for students starting in August and January sessions.  It will last the entire semester (15 weeks).  The benefits include college credit, a boost in GED test scores and higher college placement examination scores.

 

  • Kansas WorkReady Certificates can be obtained while a participant at the Adult Education Center.  The Center utilizes KeyTrain and administers the WorkKeys exam.  Based upon scores, examinees are awarded a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum certificates.  Employers use these certificates as a tool to hire the person with the qualifications needed for their open positions.

 

  • The Transition Seminar is offered for those who are ready to enroll in post-secondary education.  It consists of two days.  At the first meeting center and college advisors will help students identify their interests and aide in filling our admission applications.  During the second meeting at the Adult Education Center, students will receive help in filling for financial aid and take a placement exam.  The final step will be to complete enrollment by obtaining books.

 

GED® Testing Information

The GED® (General Educational Development) examination is a five part exam consisting of writing, math, social studies, science and reading. The Independence Community College Adult Education Center is a Kansas Regional Testing Site.


If an individual is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must accompany them to sign up for the examination.
 

GED® Practice Testing Dates

The Adult Education Center schedules the Practice GED® examination on Thursday once per month.  Students need to make an appointment for testing by the Monday before 3:00 p.m. prior to testing date.  The following are scheduled practice test dates for 2010.  Practice testing begins at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at approximately 2:00 p.m.

GED® Official Testing Dates

The Adult Education Center normally gives the Official GED® examination on Wednesday and Thursday once per month.  Testers are required to make an appointment for testing by 3:00 p.m. the Monday prior to 1st testing date each month.  In order to complete the battery of tests, testers must attend both days in a given month.  The following are scheduled dates for 2010.  This examination begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at approximately 1:00 p.m. both days.  *Denotes Evening and Saturday testing.  The evening test begins at 4:00 p.m. and concludes at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday; and Saturday morning testing begins at 8:00 a.m. and concludes at approximately 12:00 p.m.
